Set permissions for your data

Once you have uploaded your data, you’ll want to set permissions on how it can be accessed, downloaded and administered.

Permissions are originally determined when a dataset is uploaded, though they can be edited at anytime. Permissions can be specified for a range of groups and user roles.

Data permissions are distinct from licensing. You may, for example, decide to make a dataset with a liberal license view-only, or withdraw it from public access.

1

Select Edit [BETA] for your chosen dataset

Click on the grey stripe next to the ‘+’ symbol beside your chosen dataset. This will give you a range of options, including Edit [BETA].

2
Select Permissions

After clicking Edit [BETA], a pop-up screen will give you a range of options for your chosen dataset, including Permissions in the top right.

3

Determine permissions for your chosen dataset

You will have a range of options, including:

  • Setting levels of public access (including none, view, download or administer)
  • Setting administrator, user and staff permissions (including none, view, download or administer)

4

Select Add Group

This will enable you to set access levels for specific groups that have been created on your site. As above, these access levels include none, view, download and administer.

Note that, if you set liberal public permissions to your data, these permissions will override more restrictive permissions provided to administrators, users or staff.
